FAQ (frequently asked questions)

Q: Do I need a building permit?
A: A building permit is required in some cases. This depends on the city or county that you live in and how large you are looking to go.
Q: What are the setback requirements from the property line?
A: That varies depending on which city or county that you live in.
Q: How much does a permit cost?
A: That depends on what size you are looking to build. A typical garage permit cost somewhere between $100 and $200.
Q: Do you get the permit or do I?
A: We will get the permit for you at a cost of $250.00 plus the price of the permit. We provide the building plans, but we need a plot plan from the you.
Q: What about an HOA?
A: We have buildings that can be fitted to meet the needs of a HOA. There is also a stucco siding available to help match your house.

Q: Are they prefabricated at another location?
A: Alternative Portable Buildings does not prefabricate any of our buildings. All of the construction is done from scratch on site.

Q: How much room do I need?
A: For the Ranch Style we ask that you leave us a minimum of 2 foot clearance around the location where the building is going to be installed to allow us to work. Dutch Barns and Classic Barns need a minimum of 38” of clearance around the building. We do all of the work on site so we need to be able to move freely around the building. Some city, county, and homeowners associations require more of a setback than we require.
Q: What do I need to do to prep the site?
A: You need to do little to no prep work at all. We take care of the leveling. All we ask is to keep the area free from tree limbs, overgrown brush, and animal waste.
